DIY: Autumn crafts with kids

At Koko Noko, we love autumn. It's the perfect time to go outside with your kid(s) and enjoy all the beauty this season has to offer. During autumn there are many natural treasures to be found, and how much fun is it to make crafts together with the found treasures after a nature walk? Koko Noko searched for the best autumn crafts for you.

DIY Autumn weaving board

Make a weaving board together with your child(ren) from leaves, flowers and twigs from nature. The weaving board is super easy and quick to make, and you can even use it more often to create new works of art! Now that autumn is in full swing, it's extra fun to make an autumn-themed weaving board. That's why Koko Noko has created a pattern for you!

What do you need?

  • Pattern weaving board – download here
  • Cardboard
  • Elastic or string
  • Leaves, flowers, twigs, etc.

How to make the autumn weaving board?

  1. Download the pattern of the weaving board.
  2. Place the pattern on a piece of cardboard and cut out the shape.
  3. Cut on the dotted lines, we have already given an example but of course you can make your own pattern!
  4. Use the notches to attach the rubber bands to cardboard, tie them behind.
  5. Collect twigs, leaves, flowers, etc. and weave them between the rubber bands.

Make an autumn dreamcatcher

A dream catcher was hung over their children's beds by Native Americans to protect them from bad dreams. How fun is it to craft a real autumn dreamcatcher together with your child? Look together in nature for things to decorate the dream catcher with, such as leaves, feathers, flowers, etc. Let your child think creatively, so it really becomes a project for you together. You also need a flexible thin branch to make the ring of the dreamcatcher.

What do you need?

  • A flexible thin branch
  • Leaves, feathers, flowers, etc.
  • Rope
  • Glue
  • Other embellishments such as beads, or ribbon.

How to make the autumn dreamcatcher?

  1. Take a nature walk and look for the cutest embellishments and a bendable thin branch.
  2. Remove the bark and side branches from the branch and bend the branch into a ring. Secure the ends together with some string.
  3. With string, make a web by stretching it around the ring.
  4. Decorate the dreamcatcher with all your found things. For some heavier decorations, a drop of glue may help to secure them properly.
  5. Tie some threads or ribbons at the bottom of the dreamcatcher. Attach some leaves or feathers to this and possibly beads.

Wreath of autumn leaves

Looking for a simple craft for your child(ren)? Then make a wreath of autumn leaves together! Look outside for the prettiest leaves, twigs, acorns, and other fun stuff and make your own autumn wreath.

What do you need?

  • Leaves, twigs, acorns, etc.
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to make the autumn wreath?

  1. Go outside and look for the most beautiful decorations for the wreath (leaves, twigs, acorns, let your children think creatively).
  2. Cut a wreath out of cardboard (you can use a large and a small bowl as a shape, for example, so that the wreath becomes nicely symmetrical).
  3. Cut the branches from all the leaves.
  4. Glue the leaves and other embellishments to the wreath and let dry.

Crafting is a great way to spend quality time with your child(ren) and stimulate their creativity. First go on a treasure hunt together in nature and then get to work inside. We look forward to seeing your best creations!
